Historical Perspective

In the mid to late 2007 Herman Poindexter, a 1966 graduate of Crispus Attucks High School and multi-sport athlete called a meeting of Attucks alumni lettermen to help him bring a vision to reality. That vision was to publicly honor and recognize former Crispus Attucks Head football coach Graham E. Martin.

The initial meeting led to the formation of the Crispus Attucks Alumni Lettermen’s Club. On June 14, 2008, former Head football coach Graham E. Martin was recognized for his many contributions to students and athletes at Crispus Attucks High School. A bronze plaque inscribed with his photo and brief biography is displayed in the Crispus Attucks Museum

The initial group of lettermen continued to meet monthly and personally donate money to fund additional tributes, plaques for other coaches and teachers. Over the years the Club has assisted the Attucks athletic department by collecting annual dues and holding various fundraising events. In 2018 the Club accepted its first female voting member and hope to accept many more in the years to come.

By partnering and assisting the athletic program, the Alumni Lettermen’s Club is supporting the great history of Crispus Attucks High School and the future success of its students. The school has a unique and robust history of success both academically and athletically in central Indiana.
